Yes, a mutual link exchange is not that powerful but still gives some value to eachother’s websites.
The excessive use of mutual link exchange can even harm a website, that’s why I tried to give as many options so people will start exploring each one and don’t overdo a specific one.
To tell you the truth, except 2-3 methods, all can harm a website if done extensively.

Angel, thanks for a great post! Love #24 and completely agree. Linking to other spreads things faster. As for link exchanges, I though the mutual linking negates the link value.

Great article on backlinks. I think a whole structured program is the best way to get links. A combo of blogs/articles and providing great content is the #1 method for obtaining links in my opinion.

Stickers could be a good way to promote a site but since it’s untargeted, it should be a very general site that can interest anyone.

I had tried most of these but I like your take on some of them. For offline I found stickers to be the most affective. You can get 200 or so printed up for like $40 online and then stick them places that are unlikely to have them removed. The back of bus seats or the walls in bathrooms worked out great for me although obviously it will depend on the type of product as to where suits best. My site is only new but my big problem is consistency. I will go from having 200 or so hits in a day to getting 3, and I’m fairly sure that the 3 were me cecking the site.
